Every change to your systems is logged where you can read it

No shared administrator accounts, no undocumented fixes, and no changes that exist only in an engineer’s memory. Each action is recorded against a named individual, in a log you hold and can read at any time.

The problem

Most environments are held together by changes nobody recorded

An engineer resolves a problem by adjusting a setting, adding a firewall rule, or granting a permission. It works, the ticket closes, and the change exists nowhere except in that engineer’s recollection. Multiply that across several years and several engineers and you have an environment that functions for reasons nobody can fully explain.

The shared administrator account makes it worse. Where a whole support team signs in as the same user, the logs record that something was changed but not who changed it, which removes the only mechanism that would have made the history reconstructable.

The cost arrives at the worst moment. During an outage, during an audit, or during a provider transition, somebody needs to know what was changed and when. That is precisely when an undocumented environment becomes expensive.

We log every change against a named individual. No engineer here uses a shared administrator account. Each has their own, and every action they take in your environment is attributable and readable by you.

Accounts

Named individuals, never a shared login

Each of our engineers holds their own administrative account in your directory, created by you and revocable by you. We do not ask for, or accept, a shared credential.

That means your own audit logs already show who did what, independently of anything we tell you.

Change record

Written up whether or not there was a ticket

Changes made during a ticket are recorded against it. Changes made during routine maintenance, or noticed and corrected in passing, are recorded too.

The second category is the one that usually goes missing, and it is the one that causes the most confusion two years later.

In practice

What this costs us

Every engineer is slower. Writing up a change takes minutes that a provider working from a shared account does not spend, and those minutes are in our fee rather than yours.

Our mistakes are attributable. A change log that records who did what records our errors as precisely as everything else, and clients read it.

We make ourselves replaceable. A client holding a complete change record can move to another provider without an archaeology exercise, which removes the friction that keeps most support relationships in place.

Clients
During an audit we could show exactly who changed a firewall rule and when. Our previous provider had one administrator account shared by nine people.
